You are at the heart of everything we do.  Our goal is to maintain your trust and confidence by handling your personal information with respect and putting you in control.

It’s important that you know what personal information Age Action Ireland CLG (known here as “Age Action” or "we") collects about you, and how we use it.

This policy and Age Action’s activities as a data controller are in full compliance with EU and Irish Data Protection directives. Age Action is committed to protecting any personal information we obtain about you, whether you are just visiting our website or are looking for help, a financial supporter, volunteer or campaigner.

This Privacy Policy sets out how we obtain, use and protect any personal information you provide to us, whether online, via phone, text, email, in letters or in other correspondence.

This privacy policy explains the following:

  • What information Age Action may collect about you;
  • How Age Action will use information we collect about you;
  • Whether Age Action will disclose your details to anyone else;
  • Your choices and rights regarding the personal information you provide to us
  • How we look after the information we collect about you.

The Age Action website may contain hyperlinks to websites owned and operated by third parties. These third party websites have their own privacy policies, including policies on their use of cookies, and we urge you to review them.

They will govern the use of personal information you submit or which is collected by cookies whilst visiting these websites. We cannot accept any responsibility or liability for the privacy practices of such third party websites and your use of such websites is at your own risk.

What information we have and where we collect it from

When you contact Age Action to request assistance, make a donation, volunteer, or sign up to any of Age Action's campaigns or online content, such as newsletters, or you telephone, email, write to Age Action, or engage with Age Action via social media channels, we may receive and retain personal information about you.

This personal information can consist of information such as your name, email address, postal address, telephone or mobile number, IP address and bank account details or financial details (Debit or Credit Cards) to process donations.

By submitting your details, you enable Age Action to raise funds or to provide you with the goods, services, information, or online content you select.

If you are simply browsing our website as an anonymous visitor, Age Action may still collect certain information from you, such as your IP addresses (an IP address is a number that can uniquely identify a specific computer or other network device on the internet).

Age Action like most organisations also use cookies. Cookies are small text files on your device. They are made by your web browser when you visit a website.

Every time you go back to that website, your browser will send the cookie file back to the website's server.

They improve your experience of using a website, for example, by remembering your preference settings and by measuring your use of a website to ensure that it meets your needs. 

How we use your information

Age Action will use your personal information for a number of purposes including the following:

  • In relation to any correspondence you have entered into with us whether by letter, email, text, social media, message board or any other means;
  • For "service administration purposes", which means that Age Action may contact you for reasons related to donations you have made such as your tax status with regard to CHY 3/4 and Gift Aid, the completion of commercial or other transactions you have entered into with Age Action or the activity or online content you have signed up for;
  • For internal record keeping;
  • To invite you to participate in surveys or research about Age Action or our work (participation is always voluntary);
  • For fundraising purposes where you have specifically consented to receive fundraising communications from us;
  • To provide you with information about our activities or online content you have agreed to receive;
  • To use IP addresses to identify the location of users and to block disruptive use.

Who we share information with

We will only use your information within Age Action for the purposes for which it was obtained. We will not, under any circumstances, share, rent or sell your personal data with any third party for their own marketing purposes and you will not receive offers from other companies or organisations as a result of giving your details to us.

We may share your information with other third parties associated with service provision such as:

  • Companies who provide services for us such as printing and technical support;
  • Our third-party service providers (sometimes known as data processors) such as cloud computing providers who provide the IT infrastructure on which our systems are built.

We may share your information if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection.

Where you have given us your consent, you can withdraw it by doing the following:

  • To stop receiving our marketing or change your preferences - Follow the unsubscribe instructions in any of the emails we send you or contact us and we will do it for you;
  • To opt out of the use of cookies and tracking tools, please see our Cookies Policy.

Your rights

You also have rights over how your personal information is used including:

  • The right to object to our processing of your data;
  • The right to request that your information be erased or restricted from further use;
  • The right to request a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • The right to correct, amend or update information you have given us.

To exercise any of the above rights please contact our Data Protection Officer on with proof of identity as outlined below.

Proof of Identity

To ensure we only make changes to our contacts’ personal data where they have requested it, we need to verify your identity so please upload a copy of an identity document which includes your name and address (for example a driving license or recent bank statement – it’s ok to remove other information on the document that we do not need) or if your request relates to a contact record with a related  email address, send an email to  from the email address linked to your record.

Please note that to protect our contacts, we cannot undertake a request without this proof of identity. We will securely delete the proof of identity once verified.

Looking after your information

We have physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in place that protect personal information about you.

All information you provide to us is stored on secure servers. Any payment transactions will be encrypted using SSL technology.

To check that your browser is using the secure server, ensure that a small padlock icon on the top left in the address bar of your browser window is visible. When it is in the “locked” position, it means that your transaction is secure.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk.

Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

We only keep your information for as long as required to provide you with the services you request, for the purposes outlined in this policy and for any legal purposes for which we are obliged to keep the information.

We will securely delete your information when it is no longer required for these purposes, in line with our company policies.

Our retention policy is to retain personal data on our systems for two years for internal record keeping purposes. 

During this retention period we will only contact you to assist in the provision of service or if you have given us consent to do so.

If you request that we stop contacting you, we will keep a record of your contact details and appropriate information to enable us to comply with your request not to be contacted by us.

When transferring information to third parties, we have strict rules in place to ensure your data is still protected to a high standard.

Where we do this, we encrypt the data and only use providers we have a data processing agreement in place with that ensures that appropriate safeguards are put in place.
