Governance and Accountability

Our Commitment to Accountability and Transparency

As a values based organisation,  Age Action is are committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance, accountability and transparency. As such, the  Board has adopted codes of best practice which go beyond the minimum legal requirements in order to ensure the highest level of transparency and accountability.

Age Action is a registered charity with the Charities Regulator and our Registered Charity Number (RCN) is 20027254. Age Action complies with the requirements and guidelines as set out by the Charities Regulator.

Age Action Ireland CLG is a company limited by guarantee, registered in the Republic of Ireland and the company number 198571.

Our Governance Framework

The Board of Directors

Age Action is governed by an independent, voluntary Board of Directors who are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, with operational responsibility delegated to our CEO (Chief Executive Officer).

The Governance Code

Our Board has adopted, is signed up to, and complies with the governance recommendations set out in The Governance Code – the Code of Practice for Good Governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations in Ireland.

Financial Accounting and Reporting

Our financial statements and annual reports are prepared in accordance with Charity SORP standards (Statement of Recommended Practice). Our financial accounts are independently audited each year and audited accounts are filed with the Companies Registration Office and submitted to the Charities Regulator. Fundraising

We are dedicated to achieving the highest standards and best practice in fundraising. We are fully committed to achieving the standards contained within the Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public and to ensuring that we undertake our activities in line with Our Values and that we are transparent and accountable in our actions.

Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages

As an Associate Member of Dóchas Age Action is a signatory to the Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages. By signing the Code, Age Action commits to a set of principles which means that our choice of images and messages and messages will be made based on the paramount principles of:

  • Respect for the dignity of the people concerned;
  • Belief in the equality of all people;
  • Acceptance of the need to promote fairness, solidarity and justice.

Complaints

Age Action promotes the rights of all those who come into contact with staff or volunteers of Age Action to be treated with dignity, respect and equality. Our Complaints Management Policy ensures that people who feel they were not treated in this manner can address this with us. Any complaint will be viewed as an opportunity to inform and to continuously improve the quality of our service provision.

Age Action’s Social Media Engagement Policy

Age Action’s has established the guidelines for public posts on official Age Action social media platforms. Age Action designated social media administrators are expected to monitor the platforms and enforce these guidelines.
