Positive Ageing Week 2021 September 27th - 1 October
Positive Ageing Week (PAW) is an Age Action initiative to promote the agency of older people and to celebrate the contribution they make to our families, workplaces, communities and society as a whole. For 19 years individuals, groups, local authorities and businesses have been organising events to mark PAW.
About Positive Ageing Week 2021
PAW celebrates ageing and the contribution and agency of older people. The theme of PAW 2021 is Reconnecting Communities by Reframing Ageing.
As our communities learn to live with COVID-19 and we reflect on our response measures, it is necessary that we also develop a more positive, realistic narrative about ageing that will help to shift attitudes.
2021 is the time to begin to reframe our attitudes to ageing as the United Nations celebrates a Decade of Healthy Ageing and begins the Global Campaign to Combat Ageism.
PAW also marks United Nations International Day of Older Persons on 1 October the theme for which is ‘Digital Equity for All Ages’. Age Action will be announcing details of events to mark the day in the coming weeks.
Organising an Event?
Anyone and everyone can participate in PAW. We encourage community-based events, organised by groups or individuals as well as national events, in partnership with Age Action or not, to reflect the diversity of experience and situation of older people.
Age Action encourages organisers of events to register them on the dedicated PAW webiste www.positiveageingweek.com
You can download posters to advertise your event here.
As a result of the current public health measures it will not be possible to hold all events in person during Positive Ageing Week 2020. Many events will be held virtually. Age Action realises that not everyone has access to technology, or the broadband needed to support such virtual gatherings but we would hope that those who have can engage with some/all of the events will do so during the week. If you or someone you know needs support to get online please visit our Getting Started pages for resources or to sign up for a class.
