Age Action has worked to achieve equality as we age since 1992, providing vital advocacy, services and education while championing the rights, voices and contributions of older people across Ireland.
As people in Ireland continue to live longer, healthier lives, the number and proportion of older people in our society will grow significantly over the coming decade. This demographic change brings both opportunities and challenges and is expected to increase demand for Age Action’s advocacy and services in the years ahead.
Age Action launched its Strategic Plan, Action today for your tomorrow, in 2024. The plan sets out the organisation’s roadmap for change and six operational goals, supporting its vision of an inclusive and age-positive Ireland where older people’s rights are respected, their voices are heard and their contributions are celebrated.
Originally due to run until December 2026, the Strategic Plan will now continue until December 2027. Following changes in leadership at both Executive and Board level, Age Action has determined that extending the current plan will provide the organisation with the appropriate time and capacity to undertake the comprehensive consultation required to develop its next strategy.
The additional year will enable Age Action to gather robust evidence, engage meaningfully with older people and other key stakeholders, and develop a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities that will shape ageing in Ireland in the years ahead.

As we look towards the next decade, it is vital that Age Action’s future work is grounded in evidence and, most importantly, informed by the voices and experiences of older people.
“Extending Action today for your tomorrow to the end of 2027 gives us the time and capacity to undertake that work. It will allow us to engage meaningfully with our stakeholders, understand the opportunities and challenges ahead, and develop an ambitious strategy that enables Age Action to deliver the greatest possible impact across the country.
“Throughout this period, our focus remains unchanged: creating an inclusive and age-positive society where older people’s rights are respected, their voices are heard and their contributions are valued and celebrated.”
During the extension period, Age Action will continue to deliver against the objectives of Action today for your tomorrow, including its advocacy, Care and Repair service and Digital Literacy programme through Getting Started.
