PAW Towns
In addition to the 1250 individual events expected to take place during the week, 14 towns have been selected to be Positive Ageing Week Towns this year.
The Positive Ageing Week Town initiative is run by a local committee which is comprised of representatives from older people’s groups and voluntary organisations and is supported by a Town Council. The committee plans a calendar of events for the week which includes at least 1 event per day but often many more.
The towns are listed below:
Arklow, Co. Wicklow
Boyle, Co. Roscommon
Ballymun, Dublin
Cashel, Co. Tipperary
Drogheda, Co. Louth
Dublin City
Dundalk, Co. Louth
Dungarvan, Co. Waterford
Galway City
Kinsale, Co. Cork
Midleton, Co. Cork
Sligo Town
Trim, Co. Meath
Tullamore, Co. Offaly
Some of the highlights in the past have included a boat trip, a torchlight walk, mystery tours, educational seminars, a well being day, intergenerational events, a visit your neighbour day, fashion shows, arts and craft exhibitions, a talent show, mobile phone clinics, a senior sports festival, cookery demos and dinner dances.
