Briefing note for 2010 parachute jump

Age Action, the national charity for older people, is looking for participants to take to the skies on the weekend of May 15/16 for the second annual Age Action parachute jump.

Last year we had an incredible day, with jumpers taking the tandem skydive from 13,000 feet (strapped to the chest of an experienced instructor and free falling for a thrilling 30 seconds before the chute opens!). There is also the option of doing a solo jump from 4,000 feet (about eight hours training is required in advance, compared to about 20 minutes for the tandem skydive).

The jumps will take place the Irish Parachute Club premises at Clonbolloge, Co. Offaly.
All training and equipment will be provided by the club’s expert staff . See www.skydive.ie for further details.

Each participant has to raise a minimum of €520 for Age Action (€260 of which goes to cover the cost of the jump). The IPC also require that jumpers aged over 50 have a certificate from their doctor stating that they are physically fit to jump (this is for insurance reasons).

We now need as many jumpers as possible in order to raise as much as we can for Age Action’s work with the most disadvantaged of older people. If you have always wanted to do a parachute jump, this is your chance.

Friends and supporters of Age Action who do not wish to take to the skies can also help by being volunteer fund raisers, helping jumpers to reach and exceed their fund raising targets.

If you are interested in taking part Age Action needs your name, address, email and mobile number. The procedure is that we send lists of participating jumpers to the parachute club who will send you a sponsorship card. You need to send them €260 a fortnight before the jump to cover their costs. On the day we need to receive at least €260 from you. We then give you a receipt and you can jump.

Anyone interested in participating in the jump, or supporting the jumpers, should contact Eamon Timmins as soon as possible at Age Action, 30/31 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, phone 01-4756989 or email Eamon.timmins@ageaction.ie
