Here are a few startling global ageing statistics!!

1. Today almost 1 in 10 people are over 60 years old
2. By 2050 1 in 5 people will be over 60
3. People aged over 60 will outnumber children aged 0-14 by 2050

In a world where there is an ever increasing older population there is a need now, more than ever for development policy makers to pay attention to both the needs and contributions of older people in society.  The purpose of the “ageing and development” project is to highlight this importance.

A fundamental tenet of human rights is that they are universal, to be enjoyed by everyone (which of course includes older people!) yet older peoples’ rights, whether intentional or not, are often ignored. We advocate for older people in the global context to promote and support the full realization of these rights.
