Age Action Ireland

Church Gate Collections

Age Action was 20 years old in 2012 – and we had a lot to celebrate!!  For the last 21 years we have strived to promote positive ageing and better policies and services for older people.   We provide services which include an Information Line, Care and Repair Program and Computer Training for older people.  All of these services are free and today more than ever we struggle to raise money to keep them free services.

Our Care and Repair service is free and we need help to keep this essential service going,

€ 5 Replaces a light bulb for an older person

€10 Fits a handrail in a bathroom which makes having a bath safer

So every €5 raised will pay for a home visit to some one and help them live independently.”

Church gate collections are a super way of raising money to keep Care and Repair visiting people who need our help.  You can help in two ways, be a Volunteer Collector or a Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer Collectors

If you’d like to be a volunteer collector in your area, please register your details with us and we will contact you when a Church Gate Collection is being held in your area.  We are currently seeking permission from Parish Priests to allow us collect at mass.  Perhaps you might ask your Parish Priest for us.

Volunteer Coordinators

We need people in all areas of Ireland to help run these church gate collections.  As volunteer coordinator your role would be to take overall responsibility for the Church-Gate Collection in your area (in liaison with the Fundraising Team). The main tasks would include recruiting volunteer collectors to cover all masses at the church.  To issue each collector with collection buckets, permits and hi-vis vest the Fundraising Team will issue with.  You would also need to be on hand on the day is there is any questions or problems.  You would also supervise the counting of the money and lodge it in Age Actions bank account.  The Fundraising Team will supply coordinators with all necessary resources for a successful collection.
