Programme Development
Age Action is determined to expand its Care and Repair programme countrywide. We see the Care and Repair Programme as an innovative opportunity to create new services of added value to older and vulnerable people in Ireland and to help Age Action fulfil its core goal of making Ireland the best country in the world in which to grow older. The Programme additionally creates opportunities for Age Action to develop a network of strategic partnerships with a range of like-minded community structures throughout the country.
Our expansion strategy is to transfer our Care and Repair “know how” to appropriate local community groups or development partnerships as a “franchise”. The franchise underlines our commitment to best practice and is communal in nature.
The “know how” contents are contained in our Operational Manual and entails components such as branding, publicity, documentation, carefully worked out operating procedures, an effective and safe volunteer recruitment process, and a training programme. We deliver this “know how” package to committed local community groups as a “franchise” by means of a detailed training and development programme. While any “signed up” community group has ongoing access to Age Action’s centralised expertise, essentially the local group runs its own Care and Repair service.
We are determined that the Care and Repair Programme reaches the maximum number of older and vulnerable people possible and can be accessed in every county of Ireland. In 2010 there were in excess of 12,000 jobs completed throughout the country making a real difference to those older and vulnerable people involved as well as providing our volunteers and staff with true sense of fulfilment. We are determined to build on this outstanding achievement into the future.
