Age Action | Report | Raising Awareness of Financial Elder Abuse

In 2014 Age Action was awarded a grant from Ulster Bank’s Community Impact Fund to raise awareness among older people and customer-facing bank staff about elder financial abuse.

With only one in four older people in Ireland online and with lower levels of access to the internet compared with other age cohorts, bank branches play an important role for older people in the management of their finances.

Stakeholder Forum

On June 11th, 2015 Age Action jointly hosted, with Ulster Bank, a Stakeholder Forum on Financial Abuse which was attended by over 100 people representing older people, representative organisations, solicitors, social workers and bank officials.

The forum was chaired by Senator Feargal Quinn.

Speakers included Naomi Feely (Senior Policy Officer, Age Action), Dr Attracta Lafferty (National Centre for Protection of Older People, UCD), Bridget McDaid (HSE Elder Abuse Service) and Nichola Priestly & Maggie Hunter (Ulster Bank Fraud Prevention unit).
